our brand
TEJIDO, meaning fabric in the Spanish language, creates designs that respect the interwoven relationship between our heritage, our community, and the planet.
At the heart of our brand, our designs weave together elements of the past, present, and future with the goal of promoting sustainable employment and preserving the indigenous traditions of handmade textiles.
We have the honor of working with master craftspeople and indigenous communities in Peru, who weave our designs to life. Our collections include knitwear, hand loomed ponchos, and home textiles. Always made from ecologically mindful yarns and low impact or natural dyes.
SUSTAINABILITY
Designed in California and crafted by fair-trade artisan partners in Peru and Mexico, Tejido’s limited edition, ethical knits are crafted with the finest natural fibers and low impact dyes. Tejido’s philosophy is anchored in traditional craftsmanship and timeless design, and imbued with native wisdom. We recognize our essential interconnectedness as stewards of Mother Earth, bringing mindfulness and care to Tejido’s design, sourcing and labor.
Artisan: Indigenous technique and master craft
Sustainable: Honoring our long standing artisan partnerships
Handmade: Made by hand, sourced by heart
Las cosas que se hacen a mano, vienen directamente del corazón. The things that are made by hand, come directly from the heart.

Our Founders

Shanti Rackley
FOUNDER/ CHIEF VISION OFFICER/ CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Designer, entrepreneur, and working mama Shanti Rackley created TEJIDO to preserve the ancestral tradition of handmade textiles while supporting women artisans in Latin America.
Daughter to a first-generation Mexican American father and an Artistic Mystic mother, Shanti has always been inspired by her cultural heritage, natural wonders, and social conscience. She earned a BA in psychology and social behavior from UC Irvine, a MA in Organizational Development, and later a certificate from FIT in design.
Over the years Shanti has worked for some of the most talented ethical and sustainable brands in the industry including ethical jewelry designer Melissa Joy Manning, fair trade pioneers World of Good, sustainable footwear brand Coclico Footwear, and the original organic bedding company Coyuchi. In 2008 she joined the young and renegade team at Dolce Vita Inc, landing a pivotal role for the now famous footwear brand. It became clear, the demands of fast fashion were not in alignment with her long term professional goals, so after 4 years she knew a change was needed.
In 2012 she moved to Peru to start the artisan knitwear brand TEJIDO which has since been sold to retailers around the world. She splits her time between Peru and Carmel Valley where she raises her daughter Fia surrounded by the natural beauty of California's Central Coast.

Taira Hustedt
CHIEF CURATION OFFICER/ CO-OWNER
Taira grew up splitting her time between the Monterey Peninsula and San Diego. She remained at the beach for college and graduated with a BA in Communication from UCSB. She then set off for NYC where she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, obtaining a BA in Fashion Merchandising & Buying. This turned into a decade of being immersed in the NYC fashion world where she consulted for some of the best, high-end specialty stores across the country and internationally. Her chief job was to seek out new and upcoming designers and trends, and then relay this to her stores so that they were at the forefront of trends and held exclusive rights to new designers. After squeezing all the fun she could out of NYC, she returned to her California roots and ended up settling back in her hometown to start a family. Back at the beach in Carmel you will find her with her two rowdy, toe-head boys and a heeler pup named Bodhi.
Astrological Sign: Pisces to a tee!
Favorite Self Care: Taking exorbitantly long baths while simultaneously binge watching K Dramas. Walking the beach with my kids + pup and taking a million pictures of the amazing Carmel Beach Sunset. Also… yoga, yoga + more yoga.
Fun Facts: Taira is gifted with slight psychic abilities.
