our brand

TEJIDO—future heirlooms knits for a life well-lived, honoring the social fabric that connects people, craft, and place.

In a world that moves too quickly, TEJIDO is an invitation to slow down—to choose what is rare over what is rushed, what is enduring over what is fleeting. Each piece is crafted in
small batches by artisan partners in peru —not to follow a season, but to transcend one. Shaped by human hands,
woven with patience, and made from the earth’s purest fibers, our knitwear carries a quiet rarity that cannot be replicated. We design for the well-travelled soul—the one who seeks beauty not just in what they wear, but in how it’s made. From vineyard evenings to coastal mornings to cobblestone streets abroad, TEJIDO garments move with you, becoming part of your story, your journey, your heirloom. True luxury is not excess. It is time—the time it takes to craft with care; the time you reclaim when you choose less but better; the time a garment endures in your life, season after season. TEJIDO is more than knitwear: it is a philosophy of
living—an invitation to consider, to cherish, and to carry forward. Made slowly. Worn
endlessly. Carried with wonder.

SUSTAINABILITY

At TEJIDO, sustainability is not a label—it’s a way of working. We have the honor of collaborating with master craftspeople and Indigenous communities in Peru, whose hands and hearts bring our designs to life. Our commitment is simple: protect the planet that gives us so much by making less, making better, and making with integrity. We design in California and produce in small batches, so every piece carries intention rather than excess. We choose natural fibers for longevity and feel, and low-impact dyes for gentler color. Each numbered edition reflects the time and care of our partners—craft rooted in tradition, shaped for a life well-lived. Guided by tejido social—the social fabric—we recognize our interconnectedness as stewards of Mother Earth. That means transparency in how we design and source, fairness in how we collaborate and pay, and mindfulness in how our clothes are cared for and kept, season after season. Made slowly. Worn endlessly. Shared with respect.

Artisan: Indigenous technique and master craft

Las cosas que se hacen a mano, vienen directamente del corazón. The things that are made by hand, come directly from the heart.

Brick and Mortar

TEJIDO COLLECTIVE est. 2020 - A showroom turned sanctuary for slow living. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, our Collective gathers kindred artists and makers—kinship, earth-minded beauty, and time-honored craft in an unhurried space.

TEJIDO Collective started as a place to share our small-batch knitwear and collaborate with kindred artists and makers. Today, our brick-and-mortar in Carmel-by-the-Sea is a home for slow living: an unhurried, welcoming shop and gathering space—part gallery, all community—where we host care rituals, capsule workshops, and maker conversations. Here, earth-minded craft, considered beauty, and the luxury of time come together in the everyday.

FOUNDER/ CHIEF VISION OFFICER/ CO-OWNER

I grew up in the small town of Carmel Valley with a world atlas in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other—cutting, mending, and imagining the places I’d one day visit. TEJIDO is my way of honoring that map: the social fabric of people, place, and planet. With a B.A. in Psychology & Social Behavior (UCI) and an M.A. in Organizational Behavior & Development, I learned that everything begins with relationship. I carried that understanding into practice—earning a design certificate at FIT in NYC and apprenticing with remarkable knitting groups across Peru. I learned the industry from the inside at mission-minded houses—Melissa Joy Manning, World of Good, Coclico, and Coyuchi. A chapter at Dolce Vita taught me how to build and lead at real scale; I loved the people, but the fast-fashion ethos wasn’t mine. Founded in 2012, TEJIDO crafts small-batch knitwear with artisan partners in Peru and Mexico, later reaching retailers like Free People and Anthropologie. After the quiet of COVID, when people were seeking connection, the idea to open the first TEJIDO Collective in Carmel Valley (late 2020) was born. Soon after, Taira and I partnered to expand the Collective to Carmel-by-the-Sea—a beautiful shop and gathering space where slow living, care rituals, capsule workshops, and maker conversations turn the social fabric into a way of life. Made slowly. Worn with wonder. That’s the promise I steward each day.

Taira Hustedt

CHIEF CURATION OFFICER/ CO-OWNER

Taira grew up splitting her time between the Monterey Peninsula and San Diego. She remained at the beach for college and graduated with a BA in Communication from UCSB. She then set off for NYC where she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, obtaining a BA in Fashion Merchandising & Buying. This turned into a decade of being immersed in the NYC fashion world where she consulted for some of the best, high-end specialty stores across the country and internationally. Her chief job was to seek out new and upcoming designers and trends, and then relay this to her stores so that they were at the forefront of trends and held exclusive rights to new designers. After squeezing all the fun she could out of NYC, she returned to her California roots and ended up settling back in her hometown to start a family. Back at the beach in Carmel you will find her with her two rowdy, toe-head boys and a heeler pup named Bodhi.

Astrological Sign: Pisces to a tee!

Favorite Self Care: Taking exorbitantly long baths while simultaneously binge watching K Dramas. Walking the beach with my kids + pup and taking a million pictures of the amazing Carmel Beach Sunset. Also… yoga, yoga + more yoga.

Fun Facts: Taira is gifted with slight psychic abilities.
